It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost 4 years now since the ‘General Data Protection Regulation’ (GDPR) took effect in 2018. So much has happened since then – the UK left the EU, Covid happened and we went into lockdown with video calls and working from home suddenly becoming commonplace. People and organisations are adaptable; circumstances change and yet we find ways of carrying on. We’ve seen huge changes taking place in recent years and months, often simply because of necessity – whether related to everyday ways of working, the ways that projects are resourced and managed, our attention and priorities, or our use of technology.

The sudden uptake of people working from home has inevitably had consequences for data protection. ‘GDPR day’ was some time ago – and a lot of work was done in the run-up to that point – but have organisations maintained their standards or have things slipped as attention has understandably been diverted elsewhere? Then there are the new ways of working – including a mass switch to new collaboration and information-sharing tools, and in many instances the use of home wi-fi and even personal devices – which can (and often have) introduced cyber-security risks. Meanwhile, criminal gangs have become busier than ever, as demonstrated by a surge in cyber attacks during lockdown.

In this session we will discuss the data protection and information security risks that have become more prevalent during recent times, the areas where organisations should now be focusing their attention, and the measures that should be taken to ensure that your organisation’s data remains safe, secure and managed in accordance with good practice.
