About this session
Not-for-profit and third sector organisations strive to generate income and work towards achieving their mission. Such operating activity produces data that organisations attempt to use to manage performance and evidence impact. However, many organisations process far more data than they can effectively exploit. Ad-hoc investment in business system modernisation over the last decade has invariably created silos of data that are either largely unintegrated or stitched together through a patchwork of data flows. Data teams (if they exist) often struggle to sustain the operational flow of data and meet end user insight needs. The real value of Artificial Intelligence is yet to be fully understood but the one thing we do know is that without the right data you won’t get the right outputs. What can be done?
A data strategy sets out a long term roadmap that sets out the steps you need to undertake to optimise your data landscape and staff use of data over time. It represents the recognition that data is an intangible asset that – like any other high value asset – demands governance. It takes seriously the notion that democratisation of data (as far as appropriate) improves organisational performance. It inverts the desire to “become data driven” to instead answer the question “where is the value in our data”? It helps you make decisions on technology investments that make sense in the context of your whole architecture as well as from a business value perspective.
If you are a leader, sponsor, change maker or data catalyst in any not-for-profit or third sector organisation, this event is for you.
What will attendees gain from attending this session?
By the end of the session, leaders will:
- Have greater clarity on what “good” looks like for data at leadership level
- Understand why many data initiatives fail to influence decisions even with modern systems in place
- Be better equipped to ask the right questions of SLT, teams, suppliers and advisors
- Gain confidence in where to focus attention and investment and where not to
- Leave with clearer thinking they can take back into board, budget and strategy discussions
